The Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI) event this spring celebrates the 40th anniversary of the organisation, dedicated to haute horlogerie.

The AHCI (Academie Horlogere Des Createurs Independants) was started by Vincent Calabrese and Svend Andersen in 1985 with the intent of preserving and encouraging the pure craft and highest level of creativity in mechanical watchmaking. As the name suggests, the members of the ‘Academie’ are independent watchmakers, nominated and selected by the committee. To become a member, the watchmaker must meet strict criteria and possess extraordinary technical and creative know-how. The organisation has external partners too, helping to promote independent fine watchmaking as well as deliver mentorship programmes to young talents. At the moment, there are 36 academicians, 6 candidates and 18 former members of the Academy from 16 countries.

AHCI members have won 27 prizes at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), the most prestigious competition in the industry, including the 2010 and 2023 Special Jury Prizes for outstanding contribution to the development of ‘haute horlogerie’.

This spring, the AHCI members are in Geneva during Watches and Wonders, with the support of some great retailers, media and brands – at the L’iceBergues Exhibition Centre. The fourth edition will feature the exceptional work of 26 distinguished AHCI members, candidates, and applicants. The exhibition will be open 31 March – 5 April, Monday – Saturday: from 14.00 till 23.00 and you can book your ticket here.
