At the start of the Geneva Watch Days, Breitling organised launch events (in order to respect the Covid social distancing rules they had more time slots) to introduce their Endurance Pro line at the Four Seasons Geneva. We had a breakfast with the Ironman squad.

Many of us have put on some weight during the spring lockdown, but certainly not the members of Breitling’s Triathlon Squad. An amazingly fit team accompanied Georges Kern (CEO and shareholder of Breitling SA) at the introduction of the new collection. Daniela Ryf, Ronnie Schildknecht and Jan van Berkel are the ambassadors and hard-core testers of the latest Breitling releases.

With the changes in the management and the ownership in 2018, Breitling has shifted its direction too. Georges Kern has showed no fear in moving the joystick to wherever he sees his company prospering. The themes, collections and go-to-market model have been been revised, which has clearly freshened up the brand. Part of the move was to find the right ambassadors from the world of sport, aviation, exploration or cinema. The Breitling squads are dedicated to presenting the values of Breitling and the ‘squad spirit’ – we accomplish more together than alone. ‘At Breitling, we believe in the power of a team, the strength of a group, and the mutual identification of a common target, which ultimately leads to success,’ says Georges Kern.

At the event Daniela Ryf, Ronnie Schildknecht and Jan van Berkel shared their training sessions during lockdown and how they were able to maintain their best shape, both physically and mentally.

Daniela is a Swiss triathlete and holds a number of consecutive Ironman World Championship and Ironman 70.3 World Championship titles, as well as the women’s world record Ironman time. Ronnie is an 11-time Ironman Champion and 6-time duathlon Swiss champion. Jan is the winner of Ironman Switzerland 2018 & 2019 and Swiss Ironman Record Holder (7:48.40) – in case you want to go head-to-head with him, he shared that he covers a jaw-dropping 21,000 km per a year. 

Together with other elite athletes the trio symbolises Breitling’s sportiest values of action, purpose and passion.

Edurance Pro collection

The new watches joined the ‘Professional’ line of Breitling. This collection has always been important for the brand, also underlined in their well known slogan “Instruments for Professionals”. 

The Endurance Pro has five different versions: white, blue, orange, yellow and red, all come with a 44mm black, matt, ultra-light Breitlight® case. This alloy is a registered trademark of Breitling, it was first used for the Avenger Hurricane in 2016. As the company states, the robust material is 3.3 times lighter than titanium and 5.8 times lighter than stainless steel. Non-magnetic, thermally stable and hypoallergenic, Breitlight® is highly resistant to scratches and corrosion and the new Endurance is water resistant up to 100 meters.

The colourful range is completed with rubber straps or Outerknown ECONYL® yarn NATO straps. 

The Endurance Pro is powered by the SuperQuartz™ movement (Breitling Cal. 82 thermo-compensated, COSC-certified) with hour, minute, second, date, 1/10th second and 30-minute counters. The movement, the material of the case and the design serve the purpose of introducing a real sports watch – of course it is not a digital tool (like a Garmin or a Polar) but it is a solid, very well executed, cool timepiece for those who are seeking some more stylish options to accompany their active lifestyle.
