Celebrating Forms, Complications and the Five Decades of Patek Philippe Nautilus

Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 7129J at the Watches and Wonders 2026

Beyond the technical feats of the Grand Complications, the centerpiece of the Watches & Wonders 2026 remained the Nautilus, an icon of sporty elegance launched in 1976. On the occasion of the collection’s 50th anniversary, Patek Philippe revisited the design of this flagship collection with four new limited-edition versions, emphasizing the purity of its original lines. Additionally, we have selected a few more masterfully shaped complications and time-only models.

Nautilus 50th Anniversary Pieces

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Nautilus, Patek Philippe introduced four limited-edition models that strip the design back to its essential elements. The collection includes two large-size (Jumbo) 41 mm models in white gold: Reference 5810/1G-001 on a metal bracelet and Reference 5810G-001 on a composite strap. A third model, Reference 5610/1P-001, features a 38 mm platinum case on a platinum bracelet, recalling the medium-size versions of the 1980s. These three wristwatches display only hours and minutes, honoring the original design principles while achieving a remarkably slender profile of 6.90 mm, made possible by the ultra-thin self-winding caliber 240. This historic movement, first presented in 1977, features a 22K gold mini-rotor engraved with “50 1976 – 2026”.

The fourth piece, Reference 958G-001, is a surprising Nautilus desk watch in white gold, equipped with an 8-day caliber. This piece nods to the disruptive design of the 1970s, while maintaining the iconic porthole-inspired case construction. The anniversary wristwatches are limited to 2,000 pieces for the 5810/1G-001 and 5610/1P-001, and 1,000 pieces for the 5810G-001. The desk watch is limited to just 100 examples.

Annual Calendar Ref. 4946G

Reference 4946G presents a new colour interpretation of the Annual Calendar, housed in a fully polished white gold case with a diameter of 38 mm. The watch is powered by the caliber 26-330 S QA LU, a self-winding movement that manages the day, month, date, and moon phases, requiring only one correction per year thanks to the mechanism patented in 1996. After the chestnut dial of last year’s 4946R-010 recalling the sheen of raw-silk shantung, the novelty features a blue-gray finish this time with the same double vertical and horizontal satin-brushed texture. This texture is complemented by a blue-gray calfskin leather strap with a denim motif and white contrasting stitching. The sapphire-crystal case back offers a view of the movement, which includes a 21K gold central rotor. This model builds upon the legacy of the Annual Calendar, offering a blend of technical utility and contemporary aesthetic appeal.

World Time Ref. 7129J

Reference 7129J is a World Time watch that pairs a yellow gold case with a flamboyant carmine-red lacquer dial. The dial is enriched with a hand-executed “vieux panier” (basket weave) guilloché decoration, showcasing the brand’s commitment to rare handcrafts. The watch is powered by the ultra-thin self-winding 240 HU caliber. This mechanism patented in 1999 allows for the simultaneous correction of all time zone displays with a single pressure on the pusher at the ten o’clock position. The design draws on the legacy of Louis Cottier, who invented the World Time mechanism in the 1930s. The movement is the same as in the 5330G from 2024, but the case diameter is reduced from 40mm to 38mm. The combination of the vibrant red lacquer and the traditional guilloché technique creates a striking visual effect, bridging classical craftsmanship with bold modern color choices.

Time and Date Calatrava Ref. 5227G

Reference 5227G offers a refined version of the Calatrava, destined for purists who appreciate understated elegance. The watch features a fully polished white gold case with a diameter of 39 mm, a concave bezel, and hollowed, incurved lugs. The “Officer”-style case includes a sapphire-crystal case back protected by an invisibly-hinged dust cover, revealing the caliber 26-330 S C. This self-winding movement features a date in an aperture and a central seconds hand. The dial is crafted from rose-gilt opaline and enriched with applied obus-type hour markers and faceted dauphine hands in charcoal-gray white gold. The watch is completed by an alligator-leather strap in shiny chocolate brown. This model emphasizes the timeless nature of the Calatrava, focusing on the quality of finishing and the integrity of the case construction.

Calatrava Ref. 7200/50G

Patek Philippe introduces two solar variations of the Calatrava for women, References 7200/50G-001 and 7200/50G-012. Both models feature a 34.6 mm white gold “Officer”-style case with a thickness of 7.37 mm, achieved through the use of the ultra-thin caliber 240 movement with an off-center 22K gold mini-rotor. Reference 7200/50G-001 features a sand-beige sunburst dial with a matching calfskin strap, while Reference 7200/50G-012 presents an ice-blue sunburst dial paired with a pearlescent ice-blue alligator-leather strap. The dials are adorned with applied Breguet numerals and pear-shaped hands in white gold. These watches highlight the versatility of the Calatrava form, adapting it for a modern audience with a focus on color and texture while maintaining the classic aesthetic of the collection.
