"Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without." - Confucius

IWC Schaffhausen presented its novelties at Watches & Wonders in Shanghai from earlier of the year but also some pieces launched for the event. Now we cover the latest Portugieser chronograph.

Watches & Wonders arrived in China at the West Bund Art Center in Shanghai, 9th to 13th September 2020. Watches & Wonders Shanghai is an invitation-only event with strict safety measures – dedicated to media, retailers and VIP customers. They can discover the exhibiting brands’ new releases for 2020, presented back in April on the watchesandwonders.com digital platform. (The exhibiting brands in Shanghai are: A. Lange & Söhne, Baume & Mercier, Cartier, IWC Schaffhausen, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Panerai, Parmigiani Fleurier, Piaget, Purnell, Roger Dubuis, Vacheron Constantin.)

IWC Schaffhausen Portugieser Chronograph

IWC dedicated 2020 to the Portugieser. The brand released new watches in the collection; all are equipped with in-house calibres. In summer IWC teamed up with Orlebar Brown for a special edition. A very recognisable and classic IWC watch is the Portugieser Chronograph. It has the 69355 calibre, a rugged and precise chronograph movement with a classic column-wheel design (stopwatch function with minutes and seconds and small hacking seconds).

The collection already had a nice variety – especially from this year: new models expand the line: one with a burgundy dial, an online exclusive version with a green dial and a boutique edition with blue dial and 18k 5N gold case. Now for the Watches & Wonders Shanghai IWC presented a version of this very well-know timepiece with a stainless steel bracelet. The new bracelet has two different finishing; polished and satin-finished surfaces alternate with each other.

As Christoph Grainger-Herr, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen shares – ‘Stainless steel is robust and practical for everyday use, but also corrosion-resistant and unaffected by moisture, sweat and seawater splashes. With this new bracelet option, the Portugieser Chronograph becomes the timepiece of choice for even more activities and adventures, and an extremely versatile companion on the wrist.’

The new reference has 41mm stainless steel case, a silver- plated dial, as well as blue hands and appliques.
