Rolex has partnered with global design authority Wallpaper* to publish the first authorized history of the Oyster Perpetual Submariner watch.
Rolex has always had its own way – let it be the own foundry, where it produces its very own gold and steel alloys; the own in-house gemologists and gem-setters to create exceptional dials and bezels or even more so; the very strict and secretive markcom strategy. Although there are a lot of books about different Rolex models and very recently about the business history of the world’s best known Swiss watch brand, this is the first authorized edition about the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner watch.
Written by author and watch expert Nicholas Foulkes, the 252-page book, Oyster Perpetual Submariner – the watch that unlocked the deep, is available from 16 September 2024. It is the first in a series of titles exploring the brand’s unique watches.
‘The Submariner, the archetype of the divers’ watch, epitomizes the historic link between Rolex and underwater exploration. Over time it has evolved into an iconic timepiece whose renown extends well beyond the marine world, becoming the true action watch of choice for a wide range of sports and other activities,’ said Arnaud Boetsch, Director of Communication & Image at Rolex. ‘We are proud to launch this first authorized history of the Oyster Perpetual Submariner watch, and we are delighted to partner with Wallpaper* as the publisher of this fascinating history, written with great flair by Nick Foulkes.’
Hardcover copies of Oyster Perpetual Submariner – the watch that unlocked the deep, published in English and French, are available for international purchase online from 1 October 2024 – visit ACC Art Books for retailer information. A limited number of silk-bound copies are available exclusively through the WallpaperSTORE* for pre-order between 16 – 19 September 2024 and for purchase from 20 September onwards.
