The de GRISOGONO brand is relatively young, it was established in 1993 by Fawaz Gruosi and two partners in Geneva. The name was inspired by the maiden name of one of the founders’ mothers. As a fan of black diamonds Mr. Gruosi devoted an entire collection to these interesting gems in 1996. At the time black diamonds were rarely used in jewellery but they became an instant success.
By the beginning of the 2000s they opened stores in London, Gstaad, Rome and Porto Cervo. The owner likes unique stones that are not often used by others, that is how a series with milky, opalescent white diamonds and stingray (Galuchat) straps was born.
The highly qualified jewellery craftsmen at de GRISOGONO (who are specialists dealing with sculptural goldsmithing, gem-setting, micro-pave setting, hand-engraving, hand-pierced openworking) are able to make the creatios of Fawaz Gruosi’s soaring imagination a reality. The artists can showcase their expertise mostly on the high jewellery pieces; thus every year the brand issues a collection that stars showcase on the red carpet.
Mr Gruosi named the Allegra series after one of his daughters and in his eyes „it is symbolizes life and love, all sorts of ties and connections. Full, solid bonds of gold and leather – as colourful as life, and as vibrant as love. Rings, bracelets, earrings, pendants, and now a watch: the collection is complete.”
The case of the timepiece is a double square, made from PVD steel, pink gold, white gold or diamond set white gold. The dial can be lacquered or mother-of-pearl in different colours or even fully paved with diamonds. The band is from 20 leather cords and the variations are almost endless; from anise green, brown, red, lime green, yellow, rosa pink, black to lilium orange and different combinations of these. There is also an option to choose 10 white gold cords set with 250 white diamonds. The bezel also has variations of gemstone-decoration: white diamonds, emeralds, pink or red spinels, yellow/orange sapphires, tsavorites and more.
The crown is set with a black diamond, a de GRISOGONO’s signature. On the clasp you find the typical Allegra motif; intertwining, swirling lines. This is a recurring element on the other pieces in the collection too: on the rings, earrings, necklace pendants and bracelets.
Prior to the Allegra watches debuted this year the brand issued two watch collections called Instrumento No Uno and Instrumentino, in 2001. They have created several watch series since, for example the Piccolino, the Tondo By Night, or the brand’s first tourbillon watch for ladies: the Tondo Tourbillon Gioiello.
Naturally I found it impossible to resist trying on the Contrario rings, the Tondo by Night watch or the latest Chiocciola pieces. Not to mention the Animal collection: the red-eyed green frog, the off-white snake are not necessarily everyday pieces but showcase many small animals with the use of interesting materials.
So dear colour-lovers, gem-maniacs and fashionistas, there are many options to choose from and variations for combining the latest de GRISOGONO pieces with the outfits in your wardrobe.
