Piaget brightens up the autumn with new jewellery watch releases – showcasing the beauty of turquoise on a novelty in the Sixtie line and on Swinging Sautoirs.
At Watches and Wonders 2025 Piaget presented the entirely new Sixtie collection, paying homage to earlier avant-garde and colourful designs of the company by reinterpreting the distinctive trapezoidal cases.
Now the Maison launches a Sixtie novelty with a 29mm x 25.3mm, 18k pink gold case and pink gold bracelet. For the dial the designers decided to opt for turquoise; the radiant blue-green glow of the stone shines in all its glory without indexes. The strong turquoise colour of the simple dial pairs very well with the smooth lines and warm hues of the pink gold case and bracelet. The watch is powered by the 57P Manufacture quartz movement.
Turquoise is an opaque, blue-to-green gemstone, with its colour derived from copper and iron. Ancient Egyptians called turquoise ‘mefkat,’ which means ‘joy’ and ‘delight’. It has a strong significance in many cultures. It is a valued symbol in Native American jewellery and it is known as the national gem of Tibet, and has long been considered a stone that guarantees health, good fortune, and protection from evil. Piaget fell in love with the richness of the blue hues, evoking the French Riviera. Piaget, ever drawn to colour’s expressive possibilities, embraced turquoise as early as 1963 when it pioneered the use of vibrant ornamental stone dials paired with its ultra-thin watch movements and different jewellery pieces (see for example this turquoise & yellow gold sautoir watch and on more recent creations).
Swinging Sautoirs: Haute Joaillerie in Motion
The Swinging Sautoir watch contemporizes one of Piaget’s most distinctive creations from the 1960s and 70s. ‘21st Century Collection’ debuted in 1969 and only composed of watch sautoirs and cuff watches. ‘It was a new way to read time’.
At the Geneva boutique we saw the two latest necklace watches and also the inspiration piece behind these launches – a white gold, asymmetrical, textured openwork bangle bracelet with lapis lazuli dial. Similarly to this design, the new sautoir echoes asymmetrically the contour of the trapeze-shaped dial, like gentle ripples on the water’s surface. Its dynamism is further enhanced by the free movement of its light-reflecting tassel of diamonds and gold.
Meticulously hand-made chains and the gold ‘palace’ decorations have been the brand’s signature since the 1960s. There are only a handful of artisans capable of doing the hand-twisted gold rope technique, showcasing highly tactile textures on the gold.
The second sautoir cradles a trapeze-shaped turquoise dial within a rope of twisted gold that appears casually knotted yet is intricately hand crafted in the Maison’s inimitable style.
Each piece is a testament to the Maison’s enduring commitment to craftsmanship, creativity, and colour—an audacious legacy born in the free-spirited 1960s, now reimagined for a new generation of connoisseurs.
