PRESS RELEASE: 18 October, 2018

As part of the pre-SIHH announcements Vacheron Constantin introduces a new one-of-a-kind timepiece from its Les Cabinotiers department – the Les Cabinotiers Grand Complication Phoenix with 15 horological complications.

One of the exclusive services of Vacheron Constantin is the “Atelier Cabinotiers”. This department produces unique timepieces, entirely custom-made and created on an individual commission basis. “Our custom-made watches are surrounded by secrecy and confidentiality”- their manifesto states.

Vacheron Constantin celebrated its 260 years of uninterrupted history on September 17, 2015. As part of this landmark event, the Maison unveiled a unique timepiece. The “Reference 57260” became a reality in 8 years thanks to 3 master watchmakers – in case you missed it.

The Maison aims to take the highest technical and creative challenges within this department. Engineers, designers, watchmakers and craftsmen unite their imagination, expertise and passion in bringing extremely refined watchmaking excellence to life. As a pre-SIHH announcement the company presents the Les Cabinotiers Grand Complication Phoenix, with 15 horological complications including minute repeater, tourbillon, perpetual calendar and equation of time.

The creators were inspired by the Phoenix; a bird known in many mythologies like in the ancient Greece, Rome or Egypt and has analogues in a variety of cultures. The fabled bird set itself on fire and rising from its ashes every 500 years – symbolising the immortality.

The head and the wings of this creature are the main motif on the 18k 5N pink gold case. The artisans showcase a pair of engraving art techniques that only a few can still master: pounced ornament – or ‘bas-relief’ – for the case-band; and fine line engraving for the bezel and case-back. At least a decade’s experience is required to perfect the ability of sculpting gold to create such a three-dimensional effect, in a process involving 300 hours of patient craftsmanship.

Calibre 2755

Vacheron Constantin’s watchmakers have chosen the famous Calibre 2755 to drive the many functions of this extremely complicated watch. This manual-winding movement endowed with a 58-hour power reserve is dedicated to the particularly sophisticated models of the Manufacture.

The indications of the horological complications are visible on both side of the watch on slate grey opaline dials. The 15 complications includes minute repeater, tourbillon, perpetual calendar (date, day of the week, month, leap year), power reserve, equation of time, sunset/sunrise time, sky chart, phases and age of the moon, sidereal hours and minutes, zodiac signs and striking mechanism torque.
