PRESS RELEASE: 29 March, 2018

Audemars Piguet is a long-standing Associate Partner of Art Basel – on the occasion of the start of the Art Basel in Hong Kong, the brand announces that the British artist duo Semiconductor has been selected to create the fourth Audemars Piguet Art Commission in collaboration with this years guest curator Monica Bello (Curator and Head of Arts at CERN, Geneva).

Every year Audemars Piguet collaborates with a curator in inviting an artist to imagine new artwork which celebrates the dialogue between contemporary art, science and fine watchmaking.

This year’s special artists, Semiconductor’s Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt, create visually and intellectually engaging artworks which delve into great questions of life, such as how we experience the material nature of our world through the lens of science and technology. They make innovative moving image pieces, which frequently stem from fellowships taking them to leading science laboratories around the world such as NASA Space Sciences Laboratory. The pair have previously worked closely with this year’s guest curator, Mónica Bello in CERNS’s artist residency programme.

The duo’s artwork will be unveiled during Art Basel in Basel, Switzerland (14-17 June).

At the preview day of Art Basel in Hong Kong Audemars Piguet has presented a new lounge concept in the Collectors Lounge by artist and designer Sebastian Errazuriz, titled Foundations, based upon iron ore, alongside new artworks by artist Davide Quayola, titled Remains: Vallée de Joux. The new lounge design and Quayola’s new artworks will travel to all three Art Basel shows in 2018.
