Strap it up

Jaeger-LeCoultre is famous for complicated watch-wonders. For me it is even more pleasing that the company dedicates such timepieces to ladies too – for this reason we inmcluded numerous JLC models in the “Girls don’t just wanna have fun” series. I encountered a few more recently at their boutiques in Vienna and Budapest, so I decided to add them too.

Stronger heartbeats are the symptoms of having JLC Reversos around; the iconic model has been playing hide and seek since 1931. Opening and closing the ingenious flip-case is the right therapy for busy days and its dial well as the back side offer large spaces for artistic creativity. Complex movements in this line are not rare either.
This summer Reverso changed to new colourful “clothes” and the nice and professional team of the Vienna boutique organised an impromptu “fashion show” for me. The new boutique edition straps are interchangeable and can be mixed like a seasonal cocktail: pick any fresh tone or make it wild by a cool colour-blocking design.

I love brownish timepieces, which is pretty challenging to create given the fact that beyond the metal of the case the dial and the strap have to become friends with the skin colour too.
Mastered by the Argentinean polo boot-maker atelier Casa Fagliano, they dressed up the Grande Reverso Ultra-Thin 1931 Chocolate Watch last year with great brown leather strap.

The 2015 Rendez-Vous Night & Day Boutique Edition ticks the boxes too. It features all the characteristics of the ever-classic Rendez-Vous line and by the 18ct pink gold case, the brown satin strap and the pink gold buckle it sets it in a different “mood”. The bezel is set with brilliant-cut diamonds and frames the the brown subtle guilloché dial beautifully. The Calibre 898A movement provides hour, minute, seconds and day and night indicator functions – the latter is visible through a curved window just above 6 o’clock with delicate gold sun and moon figurines.

Minimalists will love the 40mm Master Ultra Thin Date in stainless steel strapped in alligator leather. In March we checked the 39mm Master Ultra Thin Moon boutique edition on the wrist and no surprise the Ultra Thin Date is similarly elegant even on women. The steel edition looks sleek, cool in shades and has well balanced proportions. The self-winding Calibre 899 with its thickness of 3.30mm is tiny inside the equally slim 7.45mm case. On the silvered sunray-brushed dial there are only the appliquéd hour-markers, dots between the markers, the Dauphine hands and logo to break the minimalist design.

“Open a whole new world”

– is the campaign Jaeger-LeCoultre launched recently, presenting interesting people, diverse lifestyles, and exceptional achievements. For instance, Eduardo Novillo Astrada, one of the world’s most renowned polo players, Dr. Craig Venter, American biochemist, among the first to sequence the human genome or Carmen Chaplin.

Ms. Chaplin is well known by being Charlie Chaplin’s grand-daughter, but she is also an actor, producer and film director in her own right. She is contemporary, smart, elegant, talented and versatile and thus she was chosen to be the female figure of JLC. Their collaboration is not new – in 2013 she created a short film entitled A Time for Everything, a tribute to her grandfather Charlie Chaplin and a Memovox watch given to him by Jaeger-LeCoultre in 1958.
