"Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without." - Confucius

Whether we approve or not, there’s no denying that mobile phones have become an essential part of our daily lives. Many people, as a consequence of their work or just out of habit seem to always have their cell phone in their hand, like a tech umbilical cord. I’ve noticed even on myself that I seem to be walking everywhere with my cell in my hand, and I find it difficult to pat ways with it…. And if we use an object so much, and have a rather personal relationship with it, the object’s appearance beyond functionality really does matter.

And this is exactly what Alessandro Savelli took on as a challenge: “Elevate a phone into haute couture” – is how he described his company’s mission in a CNN interview last year. Savelli is a female-focused brand, designing and producing mobile phones, which are more like pieces of jewellery.

The Jardin Secret collection conceived through the motto of Savelli: Every woman has a secret. The range contains eleven models with or without gem-setting, covered with exotic skins and of course in different colors. The shape of the phone is common and the signature Savelli details like the tiny logo (the Line of Grace as the brand calls it) on the sound button or on the microphone, appear on each one of them.

The Élégante or the Précieuse pieces are the most reserved in the collection (if this is a valid term to apply in this category): blue ostrich, emerald iguana or python leather is combined with polished stainless steel or in a mix with 18k red gold motifs. The Merveilleuse pieces are set with brilliant or baguette-cut diamonds.

Last year Savelli launched two limited edition emerald smartphones in collaboration with Gemfields. Gemfields is active in the mining, processing and sale of coloured gemstones, in particular emeralds and rubies. The Emerald Night phone is set with brilliant-cut emeralds while the Emerald Insane is ornamented with 4.5-carat baguette-cut emeralds and 12.5-carat brilliant-cut diamonds. The pieces were unveiled at Harrods Fine Jewellery room.

The collaboration continues in 2015 as Savelli presents the Ruby Mystery and Ruby Passion. The top of Ruby Passion illuminates by the 395 brilliant-cut rubies. Its’ yellow gold silhouette is highlighted by 144 diamonds fixed with the ‘rain setting’ technique.

Every brand, but especially luxury brands, can never be too careful in choosing their “face” or ambassadors. Savelli has appointed Julia Restoin Roitfeld for the Brand Campaign. She is the daughter of Carine Roitfeld (the former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris) and she has modelled for Lancôme, Joie, Givenchy and Sisley. She is also an art director, a freelance graphic designer and a mother; playing a kind of role model to her generation. I am certain that many current and future customers of Savelli can identify themselves with Julia’s natural, effortless style.
