"Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without." - Confucius

Even for those who have never been to the Piaget Boutique at the Dubai Mall, finding the way to the shop was made simple on 5th June: you just had to follow the profound scent of roses swirling all over the building. Every year, the House celebrates the day when in 1982 the winner flower of the Geneva International New Rose Competition bred by Meilland was christened the “Yves Piaget rose”. On this occasion Piaget boutiques all over the world burst into bloom.

Piaget Rose Day

Yves Piages, the President of the brand, has an affair with roses. He has been jurying the most exceptional rose creations at the Geneva International New Rose Competition since 1976, the winners of which naturally receive a golden rose trophy made by Piaget. Rose has been an inspiration for Piaget and rose motifs have appeared on their pieces since 1960. Visitors of the boutique could admire these, and of course other masterpieces too.

To me the highlight of the Rose Collection was the Piaget Secret Rose watch, which is a great messenger of Piaget’s gemsetting expertise. The case is 18K white gold and the petals are set with 668 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 8.7 ct). The watch is completed with a black satin strap and the buckle decorated with 40 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 0.2 ct), making it more like a jewellery piece.

Inauguration of Joséphine Bonaparte’s restored rose gardens

This Piaget Rose Day was special this year as it coincided with the inauguration of the completely restored rose garden of Château de Malmaison. The Château was home to France’s most famous rose enthusiast, Joséphine Bonaparte and Napoleon Bonaparte, who acquired the castle in 1799. The garden of the castle was a real botanical wonder with 250 rose species and other plants. Exotic wild animals roamed freely around the castle. Based on the meticulously detailed illustrations of P.J. Redouté, who was commissioned by Empress Josephine to document the roses, the garden has been brought alive by the very same species of that time. Under the patronage of Piaget, 750 bushes have been replanted from the First and the Second Empires to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Josephine’s death.

Silk and Spice

I couldn’t resist checking the other pieces, too. Last year the Mythical Journey by Piaget collection was introduced consisting of pieces inspired by the adventurous travel on the Silk Route and the Spice Route. The collection includes thirty-two timepieces with various decoration techniques, such as micro-mosaic, embroidery, engraving and enamelling, and sixteen jewellery pieces created from exceptional stones, like emerald and sapphire spheres, faceted sapphires and emeralds, and faceted pink sapphires set in pink gold. Now I admired the Emperador Gold Dial watch dial with appliqué diamond and ruby set elephants.

The beautiful Piaget Altiplano Skeleton watch has an 18K white-gold case and the ultra-thin mechanical skeleton movement (2.40 mm).

One watch for at least two occasions. The Piaget Limelight Twice Lady Diamond Watch has a reversible satin bracelet and you can choose which side of the dial you wish wear. The case is 18K pink gold set with 278 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 5.3 ct) and perfect for a party. The other side is more reserved, but still set with diamonds around the dial. It is also interesting that you only need to bend the strap the other way to wear the flipside of the timepiece.

Limelight Magic Hour watch also has a little surprise for ladies: with its rotating case the wearer can change the direction (and different facets) of the dial.

Thank you Abboud for the professional guidance!
