"Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without." - Confucius

Being one of the most traditional jewellers in the Middle East, Mouawad had a prominent spot at DJWE with their stall built in Mouawad’s New Generation boutique style. This year the company presented the Incomparable Diamond Necklace, featuring the spectacular 407.48 ct modified shield step-cut, brownish yellow, internally flawless diamond.

I had the chance to exchange a few thoughts with Pascal Mouawad and congratulate him on Mouawad’s appearance in Doha, who mentioned that this unique necklace is undoubtedly his current favourite piece. The stone is truly amazing. It sits as a centrepiece of the rose-gold necklace that altogether contains 635.4 carats of diamonds. According to Mr. Mouawad, it was a pretty challenging work to choose the appropriate design around such an exceptional stone. The stone was found in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1980.  Besides the Incomparable Diamond, 14 other smaller gems were cut from the same rough diamond. It was presented to the public in 1984 before being put on display at different museums, including the Smithsonian in Washington.

Following the announcement of the cooperation with RAK Pearls in 2012, Mouawad introduced two suites ornamented by true Middle Eastern pearls, gold and various gemstones. The Lunar Pearls Suite and the Flower of Immortality Suite are the first fruits of the collaboration between the two companies showcased at the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition. “We are planning a campaign to make pearl jewellery and especially Middle Eastern pearls even more popular” – Mr. Mouawad added.

The House revealed the new Mouawad branded timepieces at the show and lined up a decent number of jewellery watches, too. The concept is to have a “monobrand”, therefore the company renamed the watch collection and appointed Alain Mouawad as Guardian of the Watch Division. He has not only a passion for horology, but he is also a collector himself. He launched the Blacksand collection in 2010, which was presented at Baselworld in 2011. These timepieces are made of titanium, tantalum, pink gold and ceramic serving both as sport watch as well as dress watch.

The Mouawad Swiss Watch Line debuts with a collection of distinctive chronographs. The Grande Ellipse for men, has an oval-faced 18-karat rose-gold chronograph, a chocolate dial, and a hand-stitched genuine alligator strap. For ladies, Mouawad offers the La Griffe quartz watches collection.

“Mouawad has a wide product portfolio and with the different collections we target different segments.” – Pascal Mouawad noted. “Our best designers are creating the “Masterpieces” (price category from USD 1 million) and the high jewellery line. We launched the boutique collections, such as Leila, Le Coeur, Rosette or Flower of Eternity, with a price range of $6000- $20000. The bridal collection, including engagement rings, wedding bands and matching sets, is dedicated to women for their life-shaping moments. The Objects of Art pieces are very popular among even royalties.”

In 2012 Mouawad and the Premier Gem Corporation, the prestigious New York based diamond house and DTC Sightholder established the “Premier Diamond Alliance”. This joint venture company will assure a vertical integration of the two companies from rough diamond production to the retail sales of polished diamonds and diamond jewelry.
